Short Doc Work
Here’s a collection of short documentary projects that I’ve direct (or creative directed)
Wayne Clarke
This was part of a series for Healthline. Over a couple years I directed around 30-40 videos. I'm pretty proud of these pieces. Depending on the conditions, some stories were more compelling than others (diabetes is a harder visual story to tell than Parkinson’s). For each condition Healthline focused on, a set of four videos were made, each a one day shoots as well with a different subject.
Daniel Will Harris
Some of the videos in the Healthline series dealt with more sensitive subjects. A lot of effort was put into creating stories that helped create empathy around harder-to-discuss conditions. Ulcerative colitis can certainly be tricky to talk about. Specifically, for the videos in this series we tried to include a little humor, since each person we focused on shared with us how much that helped them to cope with the condition. I think it's a good example of how medical topics can be approached with humility, humanity, and perhaps a little irreverence.
Snapshots
More health stuff! This was part of another series to share multiple stories and perspectives around one condition. It’s a slightly different format that I did for other Healthline projects, picking one topic and interviewing a number of people in one day, hearing their stories in more of a "confession booth" format. I conducted all of the interviews.
Student Loans - Debt
While I didn't direct this piece, I served as creative director, and ultimately created the project from the ground up. First Republic had no ambition to create a documentary, and we saw an opportunity to tell this story with them. I created the concept and built the deck, pitched the project through to approval, and was heavily involved in the subject selection. I was also on set every day and saw the project through post as a creative producer. For all of these stories we had two full days plus one or two smaller days with very minimal crew, as needed. Here’s the trailer for the full project.
Duolingo: Alex, Berlin
Here are are two customer stories I directed as part of their road show video. These are real people who were actually Duolingo users. I supported in the screening and selection process, and built a relationship with both subjects ahead of filming to make sure they were as comfortable as possible. This piece I directed remotely, conducting the interviews over zoom. I held several prep meetings with the Berlin crew and built the story and shot list, so the crew could execute a clear plan on the ground.
Duolingo: Pilar, Bogota
I directed in person for this one. I flew in solo and worked with an entire crew of locals, one day scout all around Bogota, and one day of filming.
Ubisoft - Just Dance
And just for fun, although it's not technically a doc, here's a video that Ubisoft did as a partnership with Lyft guest starring Hunter Pence. Because, you know, celebrities!
Thank you for your time.
Let’s work together!
